Simultaneous equations

Get started

What exactly is a simultaneous equation , and why does it matter?

Every time you and a friend split costs , say you both buy different combinations of snacks and you're trying to figure out the price of each item , you're already thinking in simultaneous equations. You have two unknowns and two separate conditions that both have to hold at once. That's the whole idea.

A system of simultaneous equations is a pair (or more) of equations that share the same variables, and you need to find values that make every equation true at the same time. The answer is called an ordered pair , a specific point that satisfies the entire system, not just one equation.

Here's the geometric picture: each linear equation draws a straight line on a graph. Solving the system means finding where those lines cross , the one point that sits on both lines simultaneously.

System of Simultaneous Equations: Two or more linear equations sharing the same variables, where you're looking for a single set of values that satisfies all equations together.
